A little bit of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment news for ya…
Two post-Walt/pre-Eisner live action classics will be hitting Blu-ray on September 9th, the same day as Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier…
What are they, you might ask? The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes and The Apple Dumpling Gang…

As the pictures show, they are Disney Movie Club exclusives and will go for both $24.95 each. Let's hope the picture quality on both releases is good, though it's probably safe to say that they won't really include bonus features or anything. Disney has been slacking in the physical media department as of late, from their DNR scrubbing of classic animated films to the mishandling of titles like Bedknobs and Broomsticks…
I expect both sets to be barebones, but they better have decent picture quality and the right logos intact.
All of those wishes aside, does this imply that Disney - despite their attitude towards physical media these days - will crank out a ton of live action classics on Blu-ray as DMC exclusives? Maybe, there's a whole mine there of films made from the 1950s up until the early 2000s. Disney has made so many live action films (not counting Touchstone or Hollywood), and almost all of them are on home media in some form or another.
I'm just hoping we get the more well-known ones too. Where is Treasure Island, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier, Pollyanna, Swiss Family Robinson, The Absent-Minded Professor, The Parent Trap, The Love Bug, et al?
Maybe these releases point to next year having a good crop of live action classics from the Mouse House. What do you think?
